Ubiquiti Products Provide Wi-Fi at Convention Center
Introduction Ubiquiti Networks™ UAP® products deliver reliable wireless Internet access to meeting areas. UAP products are easy to install, and the included UAP Controller software allows for quick configuration. The UAP Controller software features an intuitive interface, so IT personnel can conveniently monitor network performance.
Universities, companies, and various institutions hold conventions, seminars, cultural events, and other types of meetings at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos (Congress and Exhibition Center) in Granada, Spain. The Palacio de Congresos provides Internet access to all users using Ethernet and Wi-Fi. It uses two independent Wi-Fi networks, one of them running Ubiquiti UAP. Due to its success with UAP, the Palacio de Congresos plans to expand its use of UAP products in the future.
NETWORK REQUIREMENTS Although satisfied with the performance of its initial Wi-Fi network, the Palacio de Congresos wanted to reduce costs yet maintain reliable wireless coverage, so it sought Wi-Fi products with excellent price-to-performance value. Its IT personnel worked closely with Landatel, a value-added distributor of telecommunications equipment, on product selection and network design. The Palacio de Congresos selected Ubiquiti UAP for their new Wi-Fi network implementation.
UAP SOLUTION The Palacio de Congresos installed Ubiquiti Access Points (APs) in several medium- and small-sized meeting rooms. The Ubiquiti APs support roaming and load balancing between APs, and are powered by Ubiquiti TOUGHSwitch™ devices. The installation contains the following Ubiquiti products: § (11) Ubiquiti AP PRO for simultaneous dual-band coverage § (2) TOUGHSwitch PRO for Power over Ethernet (PoE) and switching
The Ubiquiti Controller software was installed on a local server to configure the Ubiquiti APs at the Palacio de Congresos. Now that the Ubiquiti network is up and running, the Ubiquiti Controller is used for monitoring and network management.
UAP NETWORK The Ubiquiti AP PRO devices successfully deliver Wi-Fi in the 2.4 and 5 GHz radio bands, covering the VIP rooms, Andalucía 1-3, all seminar rooms, and the press room.
FUTURE PLANS With input from Landatel, the Palacio de Congresos plans to significantly expand the UAP network: UAP AC for enhanced performance indoors and UAP AC Outdoor or UAP Outdoor+ to cover the amphitheater and terrace. It also plans to install airFiber® for its backhaul link.
